An attractive and compact hybrid offering colourful traps that are present year-round, Sarracenia x swaniana is one of the more attractive S. minor hybrids. Exhibiting an appearance half-way between each of its parents, the body of the pitchers is a very close match for S. purpurea ssp. purpurea except that they are held vertically as in S. minor and the hood is larger and almost fan-shaped.
The colouration is more akin to S. purpurea too, starting off either green or green infused with pink/pale maroon, gradually deepening over time in good light until the whole pitcher is a deep maroon colour with a beautifully mottled effect on the inner lid due to the intricate veining. Pitchers can reach upto 30cm and the plant will clump nicely over time.
