A small species which, like many others is inconspicuous until it flowers, the narrow foliage often hidden by moss growth. A native of southern Africa, the flower stems can reach a height of about 10 cm (4 in.) and support racemes of violet and white flowers. U. sandersonii flowers profusely from spring onwards when in good light.

 

Supplied potted in either a 5.5cm round pot or a <a href=""http://www.floralive.co.uk/en-gb/collections/growing-accessories/products/rigid-square-pots/164119"" target=""_blank"">7cm square pot</a> in which it will happily grow indefinitely, given correct conditions.

  • Best when grown in cool-greenhouse conditions, watered from below and stood constantly in soft water. Will tolerate a high water table for prolonged periods during warm weather. We have not yet tried this outside but all ours are kept in unheated greenhouses and have survived mild frosts.

    Periodic splitting will help aid vigour & combat overcrowding which can encourage fungal attack in winter - when grown correctly the plant will soon spread to fill the container.
